Spotlight on: Freedom Kitchen featuring Teka Appliances from the Challenge on the Block!
The Blockheads stepped away from their own homes during Kitchen Week on The Block to lend a helping hand to two deserving Gisbourne neighbours, Tim and Tyler. The two young men, who are best friends, have been dealing amazingly with the obstacle’s life has thrown at them. With the help of 24-hour care, they live independently in the home that Tim’s late father built 36 years ago, which is now in need of numerous repairs and updates. The kitchen was one of the main rooms that needed transforming with a focus on access, usability, storage, and style.
The contestants were split into teams with Team 1 consisting of Rachel, Ryan, Sarah-Jane, Tom, Dan and Duncan were tasked with transforming the kitchen, a living space and Tim’s bedroom. Team 2 took on the living and dining space, outdoor patio, and Tyler’s bedroom. Judge Darren Palmer came to see what the Blockheads had achieved and after reviewing all of the amazing spaces awarded the win to Team 1, with the Freedom Kitchen a highlight!
“We wanted to keep the kitchen simple and very accessible,” explained Rachel. “We also kept the palette neutral with white Shaker-profile doors and Caesarstone® benchtops, and as much cabinetry and storage as possible!”
Shaker-style Sierra cabinetry in Classic White has been used throughout the room, with matte black bar and knob handles contrasting against the doors, making them clearly visible and easy to grip.
The dark tones from the handles tie in with the black cooking and cleaning TEKA appliances, which includes a 60cm FullFlex Induction Cooktop, 60cm 12 Function Dual Cleaning Oven in Stone Grey, 60cm Integrated Dishwasher with Automatic Opening system and a Teka 4 Door Fridge.
A wealth of storage is found throughout the kitchen, with inclusions such as a Häfele LeMans Blind Corner Shelf System, Cutlery Trays and Ninka Bins making organisation and cleaning a breeze. Lighting has also been carefully considered, with Warm LED Downlights thoughtfully placed to ensure that all the food prep and cooking areas are well-lit. The soft grey Caesarstone® Noble Grey benchtops complete the monochromatic palette. A breakfast bench has also been included, providing a casual dining space.
