3 Ways to ‘Pimp Your Flatpack’
Considering a flat pack kitchen, but want to make sure it stacks up in the style stakes?
Rest assured, the latest generation of flat pack kitchens, the Essential Range by Freedom Kitchens, can potentially save you thousands of dollars on trades, without compromising style.
There are many ways you can personalise your DIY kitchen with different finishes and design details, and you’ll probably even have fun doing it – just like editor of Interiors Addict, Jen Bishop.
Being a self-confessed ‘interiors addict’, style was always going to be key for Jen. She came to Freedom Kitchens already knowing that she wanted her new kitchen to have beautiful Hamptons style cabinetry made from high quality materials – which would normally mean going down the path of creating a designer kitchen.
However, the more affordable Essential range met Jen’s needs as well as her budget, offering her shaker style CATHERINE doors and drawers, complete with soft closing features as standard (not something you find in most flat pack kitchens). Plus, it arrives delivered to your door ready-to-assemble with dowel holes already drilled – making life easier than most off-the-shelf flat pack kitchens.
The curated selection of cabinets and benchtops in the Essential range reflect the most popular styles for Aussie homes, however you can easily make them unique and suit your individual style.
See below how Jen applied a savvy approach to personalise her kitchen and achieve a designer look.
3 ways to ‘pimp your flat pack’, just like Jen:
1) Add bling with handles
Handles are a small detail that have the potential to make a big impact. Jen chose to use beautiful gold handles which really pop against her shaker style cabinetry, and they also matched back with her gold sink and tap. If you feel metallics aren’t your thing, consider ornate handles or sophisticated matt black if works with the style of your kitchen – it only takes small differences to elevate your cabinetry from standard to something special.
2) Upgrade your benchtop
Everyone loves the look of natural stone or marble, but not everyone can afford it. Beyond price, natural stone actually isn’t as practical in a kitchen as the latest technologically advanced engineered quartz stone surfaces, such as Caesarstone®, which are highly stain resistant and less prone to chipping. Jen chose to put in Caesarstone® benchtops in NOBLE GREY to contrast with her white CATHERINE cabinetry, and also used it for her splashback, creating a sense of contemporary luxe.
3) Style up surrounding surfaces
Beyond the cabinetry and benchtops, look for ways to style up your kitchen with other surfaces that surround your joinery. Jen decided to feature VJ panelling painted cool grey on her sliding door, and then replicated it underneath her benchtop. The result makes a style statement that is truly unique – and no one would guess that the bones of her stylish kitchen started with a flat pack!
If you’re trying to decide between a designer kitchen or saving money with a flat pack, it’s also worth noting that the Essential range comes with a free design appointment and 7 years guarantee, just like the Freedom Kitchens Designer Range.
