With an outdated and small kitchen and virtually non-existent laundry in her family home located in Sydney’s Northern Beaches suburb of Bilgola Plateau, homeowner Kate called upon Freedom Kitchens to help her transform these two essential rooms into stylish and functional spaces that are a joy to be in.

The ‘Before’.
‘Our original kitchen was very small, as well as quite old and dated, explains Kate. It wasn’t very functional as it didn’t have a lot of storage or bench space. When we were planning our new kitchen design those were the two main things that we wanted to focus on and improve in the new space’.
The Brief.
We wanted to create a casual coastal vibe in our new kitchen, something that was light and bright,’ says Kate. Maximising storage and creating a space that makes entertaining a breeze were other key focus areas for the new design.
The Result.
Reimagined to a generous U-shaped layout, the new kitchen is welcoming, as well as light and bright. The colour palette featuring matte white, timber, marble and brass beautifully evokes the Causal Coastal look Kate wished to bring to life.
Hints of metallic also feature, adding understated luxury, as seen through the selection of the sink and tap found in the island bench. A thoughtful mixture of Freedom Kitchens Brushed Brass Lip Pull 200mm and Brushed Brass Anodised Aluminium 40mm handles complement these features, providing an eye-catching detail.
At the heart of the kitchen is the 2.5 metre island bench which is Kate’s favourite part of the room, in particular because it has a specific drawer which holds all of her beloved tea! ‘I love the island and how great it is when we are entertaining, she says. It’s so functional and the additional storage that it offers is wonderful’.
Topped in Caesarstone Frosty Carrina, a subtle ivory and white marble-look quartz, with waterfall edges, the island is packed with luxury features. It includes a tap and sink, dishwasher, bin and two wire pull outs which ensure that every inch of space is utilised. It offers generous seating for up to four seats and an open shelving nook in matching Impressions Rural Oak Chalk which is the perfect place for displaying cookbooks and styling decor.
A mixture of drawers and cupboards ensure that storage is no longer a concern in the kitchen, with the U-shaped layout providing ample space for a French Door fridge and vertical appliance bank featuring ovens and a microwave. To the left, a large window floods the kitchen with natural light, opening out into the garden, acting as a servery when entertaining outdoors.
The Laundry.
Flowing on from the main kitchen space sits the new stylish and functional laundry that has so much storage it also acts a second pantry. Mirroring the colour scheme and finishes of the kitchen, the laundry which was once next to non existent, now boasts plenty of room for a washer and dryer, generous bench space for folding, a hanging rail, sink & tap, wall and floor cabinetry as well as a tall cupboard allowing easy storage of brooms and ironing boards. Light and bright, the new design makes laundry day a joy!
The end result is two stunning rooms that not only look beautiful and are at the heart of the home, but that are functional too. ‘Working with Freedom Kitchens was great, says Kate. ‘From the initial design to the installation the process was smooth, with a focus on ensuring that the end product was of high quality.’
