When Beverly and Doug stumbled across a character-filled home close to their beloved local golf course, they knew it was meant to be. What was also meant to be was reimagining the existing kitchen which lacked style, storage, and functionality. Wanting to transform it into the heart of their home with a modern and organic palette, generous storage, and kitchen island that would welcome their friends and family, the couple turned to Freedom Kitchens for help.

Read on to discover how we created their dream kitchen.

Who lives here?  Homeowners Beverly and Doug, and their beloved cavoodle, Tess

The brief.

“Our old kitchen was 20 years old with a dark colour scheme, and completely lacked storage and style, explains Beverly. We wanted the new design to deliver plenty of storage, a lighter and more contemporary palette and to be a space that we could entertain in.”

The result.

The Design.

The new kitchen design features a highly functional galley-style layout, creating a space that ticks all the boxes for the homeowners who love to entertain. It was important that the kitchen connect with the rest of the living and dining zones of the home, as well as the outdoor space where they love to spend time with friends and family. Below a window sits a desk topped in Impressions Burnished Wood. This addition provides a wonderful alternative to the main home office space that’s located in another section of the home.

The style & colour palette.

Warm and welcoming, the colour scheme reflects the owners desire for a modern yet timeless kitchen look. Earthy tones have been injected with the selection of both Sierra Cinder and Amaro cabinetry, Shaker-style doors adding a classic touch. Caesarstone® Statuario Maximus has been used across the benchtops as well as the splashback, its white marble-look finish complementing the joinery. Industrial Black Square Bar handles add contrast and clean lines to the look.

The Island Bench.

The central island bench which spans over 3.1 meters long is the ultimate gathering place in the kitchen and indeed the entire home, with two ends allowing for seating, as well as a wine fridge- ideal for entertaining! The island provides an effective cleaning zone with the inclusion of a pull-out bin, semi-integrated dishwasher and sink and tap. Finally, it offers extra storage to the kitchen thanks to a combination of kitchen cabinets and soft-close drawers.

“The kitchen island is one of my favourite parts of the new kitchen, smiles Beverly. I love that it has lot of working space, and that I can prep food and beverages while interacting with friends and family.”

Stylish storage.

Maximising storage was another key element of the design, with the homeowners requesting that it be top of mind in the layout. A mixture of soft-close drawers, wall and base cabinets, a Hafele Tandem Pantry, as well as a generous butler’s pantry which flows seamlessly on from the kitchen, all ensure organisation is breeze, and there is a place for everything.
