Congratulations winners of The Block 2022: Omar & Oz!

It was the biggest season ever on The Block so it seemed only fitting that it would also have the biggest auction ever! Omar & Oz, the best friends from Western Sydney took out the win, walking away with a jaw-dropping $1,686,666 winnings- the largest result ever in the shows history!

The boys, who created House 5, were first to go to auction and after their impressive result it seemed like they had set the benchmarks for the four properties proceeding it. However, it was a very different story with two houses being passed in, although hopefully we will hear good news about how Dylan & Jenny and Ankur & Sharon sell soon. Ryan and Rachel came in second place, securing a profit of $169,999.50, with Tom and Sarah-Jane making a modest $20,000.

Below we take a look at Omar & Oz’s kitchen, butler’s pantry, laundry, and mudroom which they created with Freedom Kitchens and were highlights in their winning home.

The kitchen & butler’s pantry.

A streamline design, bold masculine colour palette, and subtle textures balance beautifully in Omar and Oz’s stunning kitchen which is the heartbeat of their winning home. The dark, tonal scheme has been achieved with the combination of Blackened Legno Chalk joinery, Black Pull handles, and Caesarstone® Rugged Concrete countertops.

The galley-style layout of the room allows an easy flow between all the critical touch points of the kitchen. The island bench is the focal point of the design, providing seating for family and guests, a cleaning zone with double sinks and taps, and plenty of extra storage space. Spanning 2.7 metres, it’s also the perfect place to prep food, and is within easy reach of the cooking zone behind which features the cooktop and several cooking appliances. The Bar area which includes wine storage and open shelving is the perfect addition to this entertainer’s kitchen.

As the winners of the $250,000 of V-ZUG & The Galley appliance prize pack thanks to Winning Appliances, this kitchen offers the very best in cooking innovation. Combining Swiss innovation and sophistication, V-ZUG appliances focus on sustainability as seen in the cooking, warming, extraction, dishwasher, coffee, refrigeration & wine storage appliances that have been included in the boy’s design. Sinks and taps from The Galley complement the rest of the devices, ensuring that everything comes together for a home cook.

Internal accessories such as Häfele Dispensa Pull Out Pantries, Inner Drawers and Cutlery Trays have been thoughtfully used throughout the design. Warm Strip lighting has been used along splashbacks adding warmth to the room, while ensuring that usability is key.

The laundry & mudroom.

Light and bright, Omar and Oz’s laundry ensures washing day is a breeze! A large window above the sink and tap offers plenty of natural light and a pop of greenery against the Shaker-style Sierra joinery in Matt White. The boys opted for Touch Catch doors for a sleek handleless look, while the choice of Caesarstone® Riverlet benches add to the overall neutral colour palette. Warm LED Strip lighting brings warmth to the space, highlighting the beauty of each finish the pair have selected.

The U-shaped design of the room allows for a plethora of storage options, ranging from cabinets, soft-close drawers, and linen and broom cupboards. The boys considered every inclusion that a laundry might need which is reflected in two Laundry Canvas Hampers and even smaller details such as the drawers placed beneath the appliances to allow for easy sorting of clothing. The V-ZUG washer, dryer and Refresh Butler complete the design.

The mudroom is connected directly to the laundry space, a logical choice that allows muddy shoes and clothes to be placed directly in the sink or washing machine. The all-white palette is continued, with the showpiece our new Matt White Perforated Metal Inserts within the Shaker-style joinery.
