House 3 – Britt & Taz

Score: 28.5

Place: Winners!

Britt and Taz wowed the judges with a kitchen that earned them a joint win with three scores of 9.5! Staying true to their home’s signature light and airy style, the pair created a space that balances elegance with warmth. It’s a kitchen designed to impress while still feeling inviting, comfortable, and beautifully detailed. It was also the first of the evening to have a different orientation to the original plans. “This is the orientation for me that I would pick if I was buying one of these houses,” said Marty Fox.

At the heart of the design are our thin shaker-style Cora cabinets in a sophisticated dual-tone palette- the soft, neutral hues of Winter Wheat paired with the rich texture of Caribou Oak. The look is elevated with sleek Marco Bar handles in Brushed Nickel bringing a refined modern edge. “The colour palette feels very expensive and luxurious”, smiled Darren Palmer.

Texture and tone continue in the surface selections. A waterfall-edge island bench in Dekton Velnu by Cosentino takes centre stage, complemented by a splashback in the same finish and rear benchtops in Dekton Aeris. The generous 4.6-metre kitchen island bench doubles as both a statement piece and a functional hub, anchoring the open-plan design with a sense of flow and spaciousness. “It’s also the right configuration if you’re going to have family breakfasts”, explained Darren. “If you’re going to have informal meals having the ability to sit opposite each other and interact with each other.”

Practicality was also front of mind, with clever storage and accessories enhancing day-to-day functionality. The kitchen features Hettich AvanTech YOU Illuminated Drawers and Inner Drawers, Cutlery Trays with Knife Block and Foil Compartments, Non-Slip Mats, a Häfele Cooking Agent, and Häfele Ninka Bins. Finishing touches like the White Häfele Quartz Sink and Stainless-Steel Goose Neck Tap complete the look.

“It plays into the market of Daylesford.” Shaynna summed up. “It says country but is still elevated.”

Robby and Mat shared the top spot in Kitchen Week with a refined interpretation of the modern farmhouse style kitchen. Their L-shaped layout delivers both practicality and charm, offering abundant storage while the palette of natural textures and polished finishes brings a warm, grounded atmosphere to the heart of the home.

There were smiles all round as the judges entered the kitchen, with Shaynna declaring that she felt like she was walking into a country estate. “How cosy do you feel? It just wraps itself around you, doesn’t it,” smiled Marty. “It’s luxurious but doesn’t feel pretentious. It has that level of sophistication that I know the buyers are going to love! It’s not going to date- it’s timeless.”

The cabinetry is finished in Sienna Nordic Oak, complemented by Nordic Oak Murphy Doors leading to the Main Bedroom. At its heart sits a striking Dekton Taga island bench by Cosentino, finished with a curved waterfall edge. The gentle curves continue across the splashback and bulkhead, adding a sense of softness that beautifully offsets the sleek lines of the contemporary cabinetry.

“The fact that you’ve got this consistent arch, you’ve got this big design impact, and these bold design choices… it’s risk on risk on risk,” said Darren.  “And those risks have paid off!”

The cabinetry features the new Esme profile in Amaro Smooth, paired with Nordic Oak interiors in the pantry cupboard. Brushed Gold Bar handles bring a touch of luxe warmth to the scheme.
