In celebration of Mother’s Day, we asked mum Sarah to share some special thoughts about motherhood, and how the design of her beautiful new Freedom Kitchen enhances her family’s daily life.

Q: It’s often said that the kitchen is the heart or hub of the home – is that the case for your family?
Absolutely! I feel like we spend more time in our kitchen than we do in bed asleep!

Q: What do you like best about your kitchen?
How long have you got? There are so many amazing features…. But the best thing about it for me is that it’s extremely easy to keep clean. Oh and the wine fridge!

Q: What do your kids like best about your kitchen?
Our boys are absolutely LOVING the genius cubby house under the enormous marble bench. It’s their place to get away from it all! There’s often a grandparent or friend convinced to hang out in there with them too. They also LOVE the laundry sink and often beg to have a bath in there!

Q: How has your use of the kitchen changed since having kids?
IN SO MANY WAYS! I guess the biggest difference is that we now pump out so many more meals. In the past my husband and I were only home to cook dinner and ate other meals on the run. Now we’re catering for hungry boys who need breakfast, lunch, dinner, morning tea, afternoon tea, and a snack in between all those meals.

Q: What’s your favourite family meal to cook?
Spaghetti bolognaise is all time favourite… I even wove it into our wedding vows! My husband is a master of this dish (although I have a pretty good crack at it too) and friends and family often come over at a minute’s notice if we send out a text saying that’s what’s on the menu. Last time we decided to cook spag bol we had 16 guests at the table within minutes. Over the summer I dedicated myself to learning some new tricks and cooked every recipe from Adam Liaw’s Asian After Work cookbook. Seriously delicious and actually quite simple.

Q: What are your memories of your own mother and being in the kitchen together?
I was always super hungry growing up… A total garbage guts. I would always start hassling mum about what was for dinner as soon as lunch was over… and she replied EVERY SINGLE time…. “A little bit of this and a little bit of that”. It makes me smile every time I think about it. More often than not it was spaghetti bolognaise on the menu in our family home too. So often in fact that dad put a sign up out the front saying “Spaghetti Factory”.

Q: What’s the best thing about motherhood?
Big wet sloppy kisses! I just can’t get enough of them.
