In the lead-up to this weekend’s grand finale of The Block, last night’s episode announced the Best Room of all time is a Freedom Kitchen, created by 2016 contestants Dan and Carleen.

Over 500 rooms across 13 seasons were considered, with the Best Room overall whittled down to a choice between a final three, including Chris & Jenna’s bathroom from 2014 and Will and Karlie’s kitchen from 2016, which was runner-up.

The historical accolade was granted after much deliberation from the show’s three judges, Neale Whitaker, Darren Palmer and Shaynna Blaze, who ultimately awarded Dan and Carleen’s kitchen the title for its winning ‘bold contemporary’ design with a nod to the art deco style of the building.

Judge Darren Palmer commented during last night’s show, “For my own personal taste, it’s got to be this one [Dan and Carleen’s kitchen] – I love everything about it.”

Dan and Carleen also commented on their win last night, saying, “Wow, it almost brings tears to my eyes”. “This is the best room ever produced….” ”Well, dare I say it, I thought it was!”

A bold and luxurious kitchen with integrated Bosch appliances, Cherry Riftwood touch catch cabinetry was featured on the back run and continued all the way through to the butler’s pantry, adding “wow” with its warmth and texture. Iceland White Satin cabinetry within the island bench added contrast against the timber tones. Further drama was added with Caesarstone benchtops in marble-look White Attica, while below the bench Dan and Carleen created a dramatic display nook complete with warm lighting. From the ceiling, art deco style pendant lighting highlighted the winning look.

Tracy Smedley, Director of Marketing and Retail for Freedom Kitchens, said, “This is truly a wonderful accolade for Freedom Kitchens and we extend our congratulations again to Dan and Carleen for winning the title of Best Room ever on The Block. After 13 seasons and 500 rooms, it’s a phenomenal achievement for them to have created the best room of all time. Dan and Carleen were wonderful to work with, and it just goes to show that with the right design, kitchens become the most special space and the heart of the home.”
