A vision for a light, open and family-friendly kitchen motivated Wendy and her husband to turn to Freedom Kitchens to transform the existing room within their home in Armadale, Victoria. High on the list was a neutral colour palette, Shaker-profile doors, and high-performing appliances to ensure that it became the heart of their home, bringing together family and friends.

Before.
The original kitchen dated back to the 1980s with a lack of space and storage. It was also cut off from the rest of the home. “The old kitchen in the apartment was the original kitchen, explains Wendy. It’s an old building and it [the kitchen] needed a complete replacement.”
The brief.
“My brief to the designer was that I wanted a Shaker-style kitchen, which was open-plan with a natural colour palette and full of natural light, says Wendy. I wanted it to be a space where I could spend time cooking in the kitchen surrounded by my family.”
After.
The new kitchen delivers style, storage, and functionality in equal measure. Central to the look is the classic Shaker-profile Sierra doors in Strata Grey with Alaskan Gloss White joinery used for open shelving and wrapping the rangehood.
Sleek Black Anodised Lip Pull handles in two sizes have been teamed with the cabinetry adding a touch of contrast while not overtaking the neutral palette, while warm off-white Caesarstone® Osprey benchtops complete the aesthetic. Appliances such as the InAlto dishwasher have been fully integrated behind the Sierra doors to create a seamless look.
The floorplan was altered to reorientate the kitchen to face to adjoining living and dining spaces, something that was very important to the homeowners. The L-shaped kitchen layout is perfect for open plan living- allowing the cooking, cleaning, and prep zones within easy reach of each other.
The L-shape layout also allows for an island bench, which spans 1.5 metres, offering seating on one side and 4 drawers and space for a microwave on the other. The kitchen island creates the perfect gathering point for the family. “It’s important to me that I spend time in the kitchen surrounded by my family,” explains Wendy.
A wealth of storage is concealed behind the cabinetry ensuring that this kitchen is the workhorse of the home. Cutlery Trays make easy work of storing and keeping cutlery and utensils tidy and organised. A wire pull-out pantry has been placed next to the beautiful 90cm Freestanding Dual Fuel Cooker by Inalto (one of Wendy’s favourite features of the entire room), allowing easy access to cooking essentials such as oils, seasoning and the like.
